DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team kicks off its season on Saturday with an exhibition match against Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. CT at Westcott Field.  This weekend's contest will be the only exhibition match for the Mustangs before they start the regular season next week.

Looking Ahead

In its third season under head coach Chris Petrucelli, the SMU women's soccer team will look to contend for the AAC crown.  The 2014 squad contains a nice blend of veteran leadership and youthful athleticism.

Preseason Honors

Barg, Clarke and Redman all received preseason honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com, the website announced last week.  Barg was named First Team All-AAC, while Clarke and Redman received second team recognition.

Welcome To The Hilltop

SMU welcomes eight freshmen and one transfer to this year's squad.  The freshman class is one that Petrucelli has been working on since he first stepped foot on SMU`s campus.  In addition to the freshmen, sophomore midfielder Paige Jacobs joins the team as a transfer from Oklahoma.  Jacobs was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team as a freshman at Oklahoma.

Looking Back

SMU compiled a 9-9-1 record a season ago and advanced to the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championships.  Three Mustangs earned all-conference honors in 2013 as Rikki Clarke and Shelby Redman were named second team all-conference and Taylor Barg was named to the American Athletic Conference's All-Rookie Team.

About The Cowgirls

Oklahoma State is coming off an impressive 2013 campaign, going 9-7-6 and earning a bid to the NCAA Championships.  Oklahoma State brings back 10 starters, including All-Big 12 performers Courtney Dike, Allie Stephenson and Natalie Calhoun.  The Cowgirls received two votes in this year's NSCAA/Continental Tire Preseason Poll.
