BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team finished off a successful road trip this afternoon with a 2-1 win over UAB at West Campus Field. The victory moves the Mustangs to 8-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Conference USA, while the Blazers drop to 3-9-1 and 0-4-1 in conference play.

Just before 20 minutes had passed, the Ponies took a 2-0 lead behind goals by Kaitlyn Eidson and Katie Bass off of a pair of free kicks by Courtney Smith.  The goals occurred less than a minute and half apart. Eidson's goal was her third of the season, and third by way of a set piece, while Bass' headed goal was the first of her career. Smith tallied her second and third assists of season as.

With just under five minutes remaining in the half, UAB capitalized a Mustang miscue in the box, leading to a goal by Tiffani Turpin from five yards out on the Blazers' only shot of the half.

UAB came out looking to build on Turpin's late goal, outshooting the Mustangs 5-1 in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but the SMU defense was up to challenge. Both sides had their chances in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net as the score ended 2-1.

The Mustangs managed one more shot on frame in the match, with Eidson and Bass both recording two apiece. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Webb had three saves on the day.

SMU is back in Dallas, Texas next weekend for its final home matches of the season. The Mustangs host Marshall (3-8-3, 1-3-2) on Oct. 14 at Westcott Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Season tickets are $27. Individual game tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Blocks of 50 or more tickets are $1 apiece. Tickets can be purchased online at SMUMustangs.com or by calling 214-SMU-GAME (214-768-4263).
