DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s soccer team hosted its final tune-up before the regular season on Saturday as they tied Oklahoma State 2-2 in an exhibition match at Westcott Field.

The game, originally slated for a 7 p.m. start, began at 8 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area.

Oklahoma State carried a 1-0 lead into halftime after midfielder Madison Mercado capitalized on a breakaway in the 17th minute.  Cowgirl midfielder Allie Stephenson then put Oklahoma State up 2-0 early in the second half.

SMU’s Kelsey Gorney put the Mustangs on the board with a second half goal.  Freshman Vanessa Valadez and senior Rikki Clarke assisted on the goal.  Freshman Claire Oates then found the back of the net in her first match for SMU to even the score at 2-2.

Lauryn Bodden and Shannon Moroney each played one half of the game in goal for SMU.

The Mustangs will kick off the regular season on Friday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. CT with a road match at Nebraska.
