Aug 29, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) - Head Coach Doug Wright and the SMU rowing program have announced the schedule for the 2013-14 season. Wright, who has been with the program since its inception in 1999, will lead the Mustangs in their first season of competition in the American Athletic Conference.
As a team, SMU will look to improve upon their 2012-13 performance and make their mark in the new conference.
During the fall portion of its schedule, the team travels to Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City (Oct. 5), Head of the Colorado in Austin, Texas, (Oct. 26) and Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn., (Nov. 2). Head style racing events refer to those that involve shotgun starts and teams racing against the clock on courses approximately three miles long.
The sprint racing portion of the schedule begins in 2014 with the Mustangs hosting Creighton on March 15 at White Rock Lake.
March also features the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, March 21-23.
SMU travels to Alabama for a two-day event April 4-5 and is at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., the following weekend. The rivalry with Tulsa continues at the Lawless Cup in Tulsa, Okla., on April 19, and Central Oklahoma comes to town April 26.
The first American Athletic Conference Championships are slated for May 18 in Princeton, N.J.
Senior Lauren Moore will return to lead SMU this season. Moore was one of 10 rowers from across the country invited to participate at USRowing's William Smith Sculling Development Camp.
Wright and the Mustangs will be without graduated senior Emily Carstens, who earned CRCA All-South Region Team honors and was a second team All-Conference USA selection a season ago. She also earned her second invitation to the U.S. Rowing Team Identification Camp.
