DALLAS (SMU) - Incoming rowing student-athlete Kelly McGowan was a part of the Episcopal Academy girls senior quad that finished its high school rowing career as national champions.

The crew took first place in the 4x event at the National Scholastic Rowing Association Championship in Saratoga, N.Y.  McGowan and her crew outpaced their closest competitors by 35 seconds for the win.

"Kelly is a great multisport athlete," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "We have had fun watching her results from this spring. She is a fierce competitor and at stroke seat of her 4x, brings a lot to the table for us next year."

The Philadelphia, Pa., native joins six other student-athletes who will begin competition with the Mustangs this fall. Hannah Dart, Angelica Green, Madelaine Ruda, Alyssa Sands, Alexandra Savoca and Lauren Vanek will start their first season on the Hilltop this August.
