IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Emily Carstens was named to the Conference USA Rowing All-Academic Team, conference officials announced Thursday. The senior earned a 3.53 GPA in business administration and management, and is one of 19 student-athletes representing all 11 C-USA schools which sponsor rowing to earn the honor.

Carstens, a native of Tulsa, Okla., was on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll all four years at SMU, and was recently awarded the Meyers Brother Award, which is presented to SMU student-athletes for combined athletic achievement, academic success and community involvement. The team captain serves as the Vice President of Community Service for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and has competed with the 1st Varsity 8+ crew since her freshman season.

She has been invited to the U.S. National Rowing Team Identification Camp twice, and holds the second-fastest erg time in program history. This season, she has raced in all ten events and led the Mustangs to wins over Creighton and Kansas State.

The SMU rowing team will compete at the Conference USA Championships Saturday, May 18 at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
