Looking Ahead...
The Knecht Cup is scheduled for April 12 & 13, followed by a trip to Tulsa for a battle with the Golden Hurricane for the Lawless Cup on April 19, and the regular season closes out at home when the Ponies host Central Oklahoma on April 26. The American Championship is slated for May 18 in Princeton, N.J.

American Challenge...
This weekend's regatta will feature four teams from the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs will get a sneak peek at conference foes UCF, UConn, and Temple before their eventual meeting at the inaugural championship on May 18. In other events this week, No. 19 Louisville competes in the Big Ten Challenge in Iowa City and Rutgers faces the University of Rhode Islands in New Brunswick, N.J.

Conference Favorites...
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (American/SMU) - The SMU rowing team picked up its first American Athletic Conference weekly honor of the season as the crew in the Novice 8+ race was named Boat of the Week for its performance on Saturday against Alabama and Eastern Michigan.

"I'm really proud of them and the way they take pride in the program," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "They've been really instrumental in establishing a culture for our program from the day they stepped foot on campus."

The crew of Molly O'Connell, Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Sydney Severson, Mackenzie Daly, Dominique Earland, Amanda Esposito, Brittany Courteau and Meghan Klein finished its race in a time of 7:47.0 for the victory. Alabama, who was second in the event, clocked in over 11 seconds behind the Ponies at 7:58.5, and Eastern Michigan finished in third at 9:00.8.

"This group is here to help solidify the mindset that we're contenders and competitors," Wright added. "They're here to take us to the next level and they're really living out the values we try to inspire."

Last Time Out...
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU rowing Novice 8 squad took home first-place honors for the Mustangs against Alabama and Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

The crew posted a time of 7:47 to top Alabama and Eastern Michigan crews that finished in 7:58.5 and 9:00.8, respectively.

In Varsity 8 action, the Ponies' first crew finished in a time of 7:45.9. The Crimson Tide finished first, clocking in at 7:36.3, and the Eagles trailed at 8:03.3. SMU posted a 7:47.4 in the Second Varsity 8 race falling to Alabama (7:38) and defeating Eastern Michigan (8:47.7).

The Varsity 4 Mustangs finished third in their race with a time of 9:07. Alabama took the top two spots as its 2V crew finished on top at 8:46.7, and its 1V crew followed at 8:53.0. The third crew from Alabama placed fourth (9:19) and EMU rounded out the field (9:48.9).

The White Rock Advantage...
The Mustangs swept Creighton and Canisius at the SMU Invite held at White Rock Lake March 14 and 15.  

The Ponies kicked off the invite sweeping Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8 events against Creighton.

The first Varsity 8 crew of Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Allison Buchanan, Mackenzie Daly, Loni Albrecht, Chantelle Conley, Sydney Severson, Lauren Moore and Molly O'Connell clocked in at 7:02.40 to edge out CU at 7:07.

The second Varsity 8 crew finished in a time of 7:10.38, while the Novice 8 crew finished in 7:42.65.

SMU's Varsity 4 crew of Nikole Metz, Hanna Axene, Meghan Klein, Brittany Courteau and Amanda Esposito earned the victory in 8:03.37.

SMU completed the sweep with three victories over Canisius. The first Varsity 8 group from Creighton returned with a 7:02.12 finish, and the second Varsity 8 crew clocked in at 7:10.73. In the final event of the weekend, both the Mustangs' Varsity 4 crew and Novice 4 crew crossed ahead of CC with times of 7:51.35 and 8:18.10, respectively.
