Looking Ahead...
A trip to Alabama on April 5 features both the Crimson Tide and Eastern Michigan, and the Knecht Cup follows April 12-13. SMU travels to Tulsa for a battle with the Golden Hurricane for the Lawless Cup on April 19, and the regular season closes out at home when the Ponies host Central Oklahoma on April 26. The American Championship is slated for May 18 in Princeton, N.J.

Scouting The Crimson Tide...
Alabama kicked off the spring season at the Oak Ridge Invitational hosted by Louisville March 15 & 16. The Crimson Tide picked up victories in Second and Third Varsity 4 events against Tennessee. The Varsity 4 and Second Varsity 4 squads also earned wins against Sacramento State and San Diego State on March 22. Most recently, Alabama took four of six races against St. Mary’s.

Scouting The Eagles...
Eastern Michigan kicked off the spring season at Clemson, where it was swept in Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 4 events. At the Clemson Regatta on March 15, the Eagles’ Second Varsity 8 crew earned a third-place finish.

Last Time Out...
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (SMU) - The SMU rowing team defeated Drake in First and Second Varsity 8+ as well as Varsity 4+ action in the morning session at Wyandotte County Lake on March 29.
The 1v8+ crew turned in its fastest time so far this spring with a 7:00.4, which was over 12 seconds ahead of the crew from Drake that clocked in at 7:12.6. In the 2v8+ the Mustangs saw improvement from last week as well, clocking in at 7:10.6, ahead of DU’s 7:29.
SMU’s final victory of the morning session came as the V4+ crew clocked in at 8:03.1 finishing ahead of Drake by over 28 seconds. The Novice 4+ crew turned in an 8:35 in its race.
In the afternoon session, the Mustangs clashed with Kansas State. The 1V8+ crew saw an improvement in its time as they finished in 6:57.0, but was outpaced by Kansas who clocked in at 6:42.3.
In 2V8+ action, the Ponies posted a 7:20 against Kansas, while the V4+ crew faced Kansas and Kansas State crews to close out competition and posted a time of 8:25.4. SMU’s novice 4+ posted an 8:36.5 in an afternoon race against Kansas.

The White Rock Advantage...
The Mustangs swept Creighton and Canisius at the SMU Invite held at White Rock Lake March 14 and 15.   
The Ponies kicked off the invite sweeping Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8 events against Creighton. The first Varsity 8 crew of Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Allison Buchanan, Mackenzie Daly, Loni Albrecht, Chantelle Conley, Sydney Severson, Lauren Moore and Molly O’Connell clocked in at 7:02.40 to edge out CU at 7:07.
The second Varsity 8 crew finished in a time of 7:10.38, while the Novice 8 crew finished in 7:42.65. SMU’s Varsity 4 crew of Nikole Metz, Hanna Axene, Meghan Klein, Brittany Courteau and Amanda Esposito earned the victory in 8:03.37.
SMU completed the sweep with three victories over Canisius. The first Varsity 8 group from Creighton returned with a 7:02.12 finish, and the second Varsity 8 crew clocked in at 7:10.73. In the final event of the weekend, both the Mustangs’ Varsity 4 crew and Novice 4 crew crossed ahead of CC with times of 7:51.35 and 8:18.10, respectively.
