AUSTIN, Texas - The SMU rowing team posted strong numbers at the fifth annual Longhorn Invitational which featured an international field of eight schools and one club team on Austin's Town Lake.
In the morning session, the Mustangs won the First Varisty Fours race against the Texas Crew in a time of 8:54.3 (Texas crew with a time of 9:10.4). SMU placed second to Texas in first novice eights with a time of 7:29.4 and second to Victoria in the first varsity eights, posting a time of 7:19.4.
The afternoon session was postponed nearly two hours due to severe thunderstorms in the area, but action resumed in the late afternoon. In the first novice eights race against Kansas State, SMU placed second with a time of 7:26.9. SMU also placed second to the Wildcats' first varsity eights with a mark of 6:56.8.
Competition wraps up Sunday with three morning races (9:40am - Novice Eight - SMU vs. Tulsa; 9:50am - Varsity Four - SMU vs. Texas Varsity; and 10:10am - Varsity Eight - SMU vs. Tulsa).
