DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Rowing team opened their spring season Saturday with wins in four of six races over visiting Creighton. SMU earned victories in the varsity eight and novice eight events. The Mustangs also finished first in a varsity four race and a novice four race. The crews competed over a 1,000-meter race course on White Rock Lake.

The Mustang varsity eight (Veronica Perez [cox], Whitney Tucker, Meg Gaab, Susie Thompson, Krystal Kulka, Kristi Hansen, Jenise Dornenburg, Lindsay Schmidt, Jessica Schane) finished the course in 4:01.06, over two seconds ahead of Creighton (4:03.12).

?I?m happy that we finished first in four of the six events, but I?m also very happy that we started our spring break training camp today,? said SMU Head Coach Doug Wright. ?This week of training will allow us to work on some things that will help make us even faster later in the season.?

SMU returns to action next Saturday and Sunday at the Longhorn Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas on Town Lake in Austin, Texas.
