CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU rowing team competed at the Head of the Hooch on Saturday to complete the fall portion of its 2013-14 schedule.

"We had great performances by both crews today, despite windy conditions," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "I'm very proud of their efforts."

The Freshman 8+ crew capped off a successful fall and finished third out of 47 in the College and Club Novice 8+ race. They finished in a time of 17:16.1. The group consisted of freshmen Molly O'Connell, Savannah Moody, Lindsay Heyman, Sydney Severson, Mackenzie Daly, Sydney Crews, Amanda Esposito, Katrina Kerrigan and Julia Neppl.

In the Mustangs' second event of the day, the Varsity 4+ crew of seniors Lauren Moore and Maggie Jones, junior Chantelle Conley and sophomores Loni Albrecht and Miranda Zsigmond finished fourth in a closely decided race.

"The Varsity 4+ crew had an awesome showing today," Wright added. "They finished fourth, but just seconds off the lead in a race that included talented NCAA competition and conference rivals."

The Head of the Hooch was the final fall race for the Mustangs, and SMU returns to action in the spring as it hosts Creighton at White Rock Lake on March 15.
