AUSTIN (SMU) - The SMU rowing team took home four first place finishes at the Head of the Colorado on Saturday.

"We did really well today," said Head Coach Doug Wright. "Everyone raced really hard and showed how hard they have been training since the last head race."

The freshman 8+ crew earned its second victory, in as many races, as it placed first out of 12 competitors in a time of 18:50.4. The finish was over a minute faster than its closest opponent.

SMU also earned top spots in the open double as senior Lauren Moore and junior Chantelle Conley edged out their teammates in a time of 21:39.9. In the novice 4+ race, the Mustangs also swept the top two spots as they finished in 20:02.5 and 20:43.9, respectively. The crews were over three minutes ahead of their closest competitors. In the open 4+ race, SMU finished ahead of eight other crews in a time of 20:15.7 for the win.

In their first race, the novice 8+ group finished fourth in the second-novice 8+ event in a time of 22:46.4.

The final race of the day for the Mustangs saw a second and fifth place finish in the open single. Chantelle Conley finished in a time of 23:19.0, while sophomore Jonnie Parmer clocked in at 26:27.2.

"Chantelle raced a 2x, 4+ and then finished second in the open single," Wright said. "All in all she went an impressive 30k meters today, and half of it at pressure rate. She had a long day, but finished very strong."

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Head of the Hooch. Check SMUMustangs.com for ways to follow the event.
