OKLAHOMA CITY (SMU) - The SMU rowing team picked up a pair of top-three finishes in its first event of the 2013-14 season on Saturday at the Head of the Oklahoma.

"I'm very pleased with our results today," Head Coach Doug Wright said. "Everyone raced hard and showed the kind of speed we are capable of."

The Novice 8+ team finished seven seconds ahead of its closest competitor in a time of 15:38.309 for a first place finish, out of 10, in the event.

The duo of senior Lauren Moore and junior Chantelle Conley also had a successful day as they finished third out of 12 in the open 2x. The pair finished the event in a time of 17:33.254. Conley also finished sixth in the women's open 1x race after clocking in at 19:27.025.

Moore also competed in the 1x event and finished in 19:48.814, which placed her eighth.

In the collegiate 4+ event, SMU placed sixth out of 34 clocking in at 16:37.184.

"It's early in the season and we still have a lot of work to do, but today was a great start," Wright said.

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Austin, Texas, for the Head of the Colorado. Follow @SMURowing on Twitter and like SMURowing on Facebook for race updates.
