Mustangs Off To Strong Start After Second Place Finish At The Head Of The Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (SMU) - Freshman Chantelle Conley led the SMU rowing team to a second place finish in the 8+ 500m final at the Head of the Oklahoma this weekend. The coxswain paced the boat to a time of 1:41.31, just under four seconds ahead of the SMU B boat, led by Halley Learned.

Conley also paired with her sister, Dominique, for a ninth place finish in the 2x, finishing one spot behind teammates Samantha Peltier and Emily McCombs, who finished the course in 17:58.41.

Before competing in the 500m sprint final, the 8+ teams competed in the 4,000m in the morning. Conley led her boat to a 14th place finish against many of the top teams in the country with a time of 14:34.07, while Learned's boat finished 17th with a time of 15:02.25.

The Mustangs will compete in the Head of the Colorado in Austin, Texas on Oct. 29 in their final event of the fall season.
