Mustangs Finish Fourth In Final At San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (SMU) - The SMU 1st Varsity 8+ crew finished fourth in the Women's Collegiate Varsity Petite final Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic, less than 10 seconds off the winner's pace with a time of 7:07.41. The Mustangs beat Kansas State, San Diego State and Villanova to the finish line, but missed the podium by less than three seconds, with the St. Joseph's crew posting a time of 7:04.92 to edge out SMU.
The SMU 2nd Varsity 8+ finished its final with a time of 7:28.55, 18 seconds out of the top three and just 21 seconds behind the first-place boat. The 2V8+ got faster as the weekend went on, shaving nearly seven seconds off of its preliminary time of 7:35.15 on Saturday. The 1V8+ recorded a 7:04.31 on Saturday, but the Mustangs weren't able to keep up with San Diego, which won the heat with a 6:42.30.
SMU returns home to host Tulsa in a race at White Rock Lake on Saturday morning. The Mustangs swept two Varsity 8+ races against Creighton on their home water on March 16 in the first competition of the spring.
