Mustangs Unable To Knock Off Top Competition At Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - The SMU women's rowing team came up short at the Longhorn Invitational on Lady Bird Lake this weekend, falling to Texas, Iowa and UCF in the preliminary heats before falling to Kansas State in the finals on Sunday.

The Mustangs posted their fastest time of the weekend against Iowa, with the 1st Varsity 8+ finishing the course in a time of 7:02.2. SMU's 1st V8+ also recorded a 7:14.8 against Texas in its first race of the weekend, just over a second behind one of the Texas Varsity 8+ crews.

The SMU 2nd Varsity 8+ posted its fasted time of the weekend on Saturday morning against Iowa, posting a 7:23.2. The Mustangs gained valuable experience this weekend, competing in 12 races against some the fastest crews in the country, four by each crew.

The Mustangs will get a weekend off before their next competition at the San Diego Crew Classic April 5-7 in San Diego, Calif. SMU has just three events left before the Conference USA Championships in May.
