DALLAS (SMU) - Top high school golfers Katie Page and Lindsey McCurdy both committed to play golf at SMU on Wednesday. The duo will hope to provide even more success for the Mustangs' program starting next fall.
"We're very excited to add these two young ladies to our golf program," Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "Both have the potential for greatness. Add in last year's class, and it gives us the chance to win championships and do great things at SMU."
Page, a native of Lousiville, Ky., is the No. 55 recruit in the 2013 class according to GolfWeek. An All-State golf honoree the last two years, Page won the Kentucky Junior Amateur championship on July 3. Page has four top-five finishes in 2012, and helped lead Sacred Heart Academy to the state high school championship by a record 43 strokes.
"She will be a great leader on our team," Sutherland said of Page. "She comes from a great family and has developed a terrific work ethic."
McCurdy, from Kyle, Texas, is currently No. 91 in the GolfWeek/Sagarin junior rankings. McCurdy won the 4A State Championship in 2011, and also posted two other wins last season to go along with four victories in 2010 as a sophomore. McCurdy has also tallied 14 top-fives during that span, and finished fifth at the AJGA Stacy Lewis Junior Open in 2012.
"She's a proven leader," Sutherland said of McCurdy. "She can focus when the stakes are high. She's a great athlete who also started on her high school basketball team."
