Lady Mustangs Win Bronco Invite

KUNA, Idaho (SMU) - The SMU women?s golf team carded a 54-hole total of 882 to cruise to a 21-stroke win at the Bronco Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6,038-yard, par-72 Falcon Crest Golf Club. The Mustangs were led by sophomore Jennifer Ackerson, who claimed individual medalist honors with rounds of 70, 70 and 69 in posting a seven-under 209 and two-stroke win.

Fellow sophomores Laura Cross and Ashley Deatherage also had strong showings, finishing seventh and 13th, respectively. Cross shot a 71-75-74-220-+4, while Deatherage recorded a 76-73-76-225-+9. Freshman Lacey Jones continued her quick start, finishing in a 20th-place tie after carding a 74-78-76-228-+12.

Sophomore Whitney Eckert also played as an individual and posted a solid 78-78-81-237-+21 to tie for 45th. SMU?s other soph, Kristina Rothengatter withdrew after a first-round 79.

Up next for SMU is the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Women`s Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., Nov. 1-2.
