FRANKLIN, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU women’s golf team shot a final round 304 to finish at 910 and in 16th place in the loaded field at the fourth-annual Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship hosted by Vanderbilt at the Legends Club.
SMU faced a tough challenge in the 18-team tournament as all but three teams were ranked in GolfStat.com’s preseason Top 25.
No. 1-ranked Duke rallied from seven shots behind Sunday to edge UCLA by one shot to win the event. Georgia’s Jackie Beers shot four-under 68 to win the individual title. Beers 54-hole total was 212, three better than UCLA’s Susie Mathews.
SMU was led by Laura Cross, who shot 72-75-71-218 to finish at two-over and in a tie in 10th place. Kristina Rothengatter went 75-76-76-227 for a 45th-place tie at +11. Jennifer Ackerson stood alone in 69th with a 76-76-80-232-+16. Freshman Lacey Jones rebounded from a rough opening round to finish in a tie at 81st with 87-74-77-238 while Ashley Deatherage went 82-82-81-245 to finish 90th.
