NEW YORK - Sophomore Jenny Haglund has been named to the Golf World Top 50 Female Players to Watch List, the publication announced today.
"We're excited for this honor for Jenny," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "It's a great recognition for both her season last year and the growth of our program here at SMU. Jenny had a great summer working with her pro at home in Sweden and improving her technique. Jenny, and the rest of the team, has returned to practice here at SMU and we are ready to play, we are ready to have a great year."
As a freshman, Haglund led the Mustangs with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional. Haglund posted six rounds at par or better, including a season-low 67 in the second round of the Clover Cup. The First Team All-Conference USA selection turned in a fourth-place finish in her first collegiate event, the Chip-N Club Invitational, before turning in back-to-back third-place finishes at the Central District Invitational and the Clover Cup.
SMU is coming off a 13th-place finish at its first NCAA Regional since 2007. Four of the five Mustangs that competed in the Regional last season return to this 2013-14 squad, as Sutherland enters her third season.
