GLEN COVE, N.Y. (SMU) – SMU junior-to-be Alexandra Rossi had mixed results Wednesday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Nassau Country Club.

Rossi, who entered as the 30th seed, was eliminated by No. 35 Lauren Stephenson of Lexington, S.C., 7 and 6 in the opening round of 64. Stephenson, who is still in high school, will play collegiately for Clemson starting in 2015.

The week began with Rossi making the cut after posting rounds of 71 and 73 on the par 70, 6,273-yard course. She had 19 pars and seven birdies in those two rounds.

Fellow Mustang Jennifer Park did not make the cut after she carded rounds of 77 and 77 in qualifying.

Both Rossi and Park qualified for the championship by posting solid rounds at the Preston Wood Country Club (Hills Course) on July 1. Rossi shot a round of 69 while Park turned in a round of 70.
