CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (SMU) - Maria Elena Villamil and Melanie White were each named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Monday after posting cumulative GPAs of 3.50 or higher.

Villamil, a math and computer science major, posted a season-best tournament finish at the Chip-N Club Invitational, tying for 15th in helping lead SMU to its season-opening win. Villamil also played a crucial role in the Mustangs' triumph at the Johnie Imes Invitational, posting a season-low first round score of 73.

White, a finance and management science major, started the season with a splash, taking individual medalist honors in SMU's second event of the season, the Johnie Imes Invitational. During that tournament, White carded the lowest round in SMU history, shooting a seven-under 65 during the second round. White ended up breaking the tournament record for total score, tallying a 208 over the three-day event. The senior finished the season with four under-par rounds. White also was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team on April 19.
