Women's Golf

Entry 4 by Laura Cross:

Thanks to the warm, sunny days that we spent in Florida, we officially have golf tans! The weather was wonderful in Parrish, Florida, a community just outside Tampa. Michigan State University hosts the Central District tournament each February in Florida at River Wilderness Golf Club. Our very own Lacey Jones won the event individually two years ago. Although the Mustangs did not bring back a trophy, we felt this event was a chance to get back into competition and evaluate our strengths and weaknesses both individually and as a team.

Each year our team looks forward to this event for several reasons. First, well, itís Florida. Second, each team is placed with ďhost familiesĒ. These families house one to two girls from each team at their home and providing delicious dinners and wonderful hospitality. This year we stayed with Toby Kelley, Brian and Lilah Rippett, and Rick and Patti Wadsworth. We enjoyed these families so much and appreciate all they did for us.

Our team finished 11th overall. Freshman Tia Gannan led the team, finishing tied for 23rd. Sarah Dodson had a great tournament, tying for 34th. Lacey Jones finished at 41st and I rounded out the team, finishing at 58th. Our junior superstar Kate Ackerson had to withdraw from the tournament after the first round due to an injury. However, because she is a great team player Kate pushed through the pain and finished the first 18 holes to contribute to the team.

I would also like to thank Sarah Dodsonís dad, Rick Dodson for his wise investment of a portable navigation system. Coach was able to successfully transport us around Tampa without getting lost! And thank you to all the parents who traveled to support the Mustangs!!! Now, itís time to get ready for the "MoMorial" in College Station, and we are sure ready for a win!
