IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) – SMU golfer Felicia Espericueta was named to the All-Conference USA second team today, per the league’s announcement. The junior was one of 16 golfers that made up this year’s three All-Conference teams.
Espericueta began the season with back-to-back individual medals at the Chip-N Club Invitational and the Badger Invitational. The win that the Chip-N Club was the first individual win for a Mustang since Kate Ackerson won the Baylor Spring Invite in March 2009. Espericueta’s 4-over par (74-75-71=220) also led SMU to its first team win since Sept. 19, 2006.
Less than two weeks later, the junior earned the second tournament victory of her career by shooting a season-low 215 in rainy conditions. The 1-under par (70-72-73=215) was six strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
Espericueta ended the season by taking second at the Conference USA Championship. The Edinburg, Texas native was in fourth after both the first and second rounds, but a final round 73 moved her up to second place, four strokes out of the top spot.
