BOISE, IDAHO (SMU) - The SMU women?s golf team remains in third place following the second round of play at the 2005 WAC Championships at the 6,185-yard, par-72 Falcon Crest Golf Course. After an opening-round 303, SMU carded a second-round 300 and is eight strokes behind leader San Jose at 595.

Individually, SMU has three golfers in the top 11 - Laura Cross, Lacey Jones and Jennifer Ackerson. Cross made a strong move up the leaderboard in the second round, following up her first-round 76 with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday. She is now alone in fourth place and is just three strokes behind leader Jenelle Gomez of San Jose State. Jones again carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for fifth at 4-over. Ackerson sits in 11th after shooting a second-round 75 and is 10-over through 36 holes. SMU conference title hopes did take a hit on Tuesday, though, as Kristina Rothengatter, who was in the tourney?s top 10 and had shot in the mid-70s, was disqualified for the second round after she and her playing partner, Lindsey Huebert of Boise State, failed to exchange scorecards following the round. As a result, SMU was forced to count Ashley Deatherage?s second-round 80.
