Jones Takes Medalist Honors At Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, OKLAHOMA (SMU) - SMU freshman Lacey Jones shot a final-round 73 to win medalist honors by one stroke at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the 5,920-yard, par-70 Trails Golf Club. As a team, SMU shot a three-round total of 919 to finish fourth in the 16-team field.

Jones, an Idabel, Okla., native, shot rounds of 72-76-73 to finish at 221, one shot ahead of three golfers at 222. The win is Jones? first as a collegian.

Jennifer Ackerson also had a solid tournament, tying for 13th at 228 with rounds of 78-74-76. Laura Cross slipped a bit in round three with an 81, but still finished at 230 to place 19th. Ashley Deatherage carded an 87 in the final round to finish in a 62nd-place tie at 247. Kristina Rothengatter withdrew in the final round after rounds of 76 and 81. SMU's Whitney Eckert competed in the event as an individual tied for 70th at 251.
