Boerne, Texas (SMU) - The SMU women?s golf team moved up a spot to third place after a strong second round at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout at the 6,007-yard, par-72 Tapatio Springs Resort Course.

SMU fired a team 296 on Friday, the second-best score in the 18-team field behind only host Baylor. The field includes five schools ranked among the nation's Top 50 according to Golfstat.com - No. 24 Michigan, No. 29 SMU, No. 38 Baylor, No. 42 Oklahoma and No. 50 Texas Tech.

SMU is playing without Jennifer Ackerson, but sophomore Laura Cross is picking up the slack, turning in a tournament-best round of 70 in round two. Cross is tied for third at 76-70-146.

Lacey Jones again carded a 77 and is tied for 17th at 77-77-154. Ashley Deatherage was the most-improved Mustang in the second round, carding an even-par 72 after shooting an 86 in round one. She is tied for 29th at 158. Whitney Eckert also shaved strokes on Friday, shooting 77 after firing an 85 on Thursday. She is tied for 43rd at 162. Kristina Rothengatter remains in the hunt as well, standing in a tie for 25th at 76-81-157.

The 2005 Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout concludes with a third and final round of 18 holes Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CST.
