BRYAN, Texas (SMU)- The SMU women's golf team carded opening rounds of 318-309= 627 on Monday and stand in second place behind host Texas A&M at the 12th-annual "Mo"Morial Invitational at water-logged Traditions Golf Club.

Despite missing last week's event with minor injuries suffered in a car accident, SMU standout Laura Cross wasted little time in returning to form and is tied for second individually, trailing Samantha Richdale of Illinois State by only three strokes. Cross fired rounds of 77-74=151 on Monday.

Other SMU scores were Lacey Jones (81-78=159-T26th), Jennifer Ackerson (79-81=160-T32nd), Kristina Rothengatter (81-79=160-T32nd) and Ashley Deatherage (83-78=161-T36th).

Heavy rains over the weekend made for difficult conditions on the long, 6,386-yard par-72 course, leading to high scores.
