Ackerson Finishes Eighth At Central District

PARRISH, Fla. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team fired a final round 305 to finish at 919 in ninth place at the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Golf Club. SMU was without star Laura Cross, but still finished just four strokes out of seventh place.

Leading the way for SMU was Jennifer Ackerson, who finished in an eighth-place tie after shooting a final-round 74 to finish 73-73-74-220-+4. Ackerson was just four shots behind co-leaders Stacy Lewis of Arkansas and Amy Schmucker of Michigan who won with even-pars.

Freshman Lacey Jones (78-74-74-226-+10) also played well for the Ponies, finishing in a 24th-place tie. Other SMU scores were: Kristina Rothengatter (76-80-78-234-+18-T46th), Ashley Deatherage (82-78-79-239-+23-T58th) and Whitney Eckert (84-80-80-244-+28-T68th).

Cross, the 2004 WAC Freshman of the Year, missed the event due to minor injuries suffered in a recent auto accident but should return later this season.
