RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs women's golf team will start its run to a Conference USA title and an NCAA Championship berth this Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The Mustangs had a successful fall, winning two of their first three events and moving up to No. 36 in the GolfWeek/Sagarin national rankings. GolfWeek recently picked SMU to win the C-USA title this spring, which would be the program's first conference title since winning the 1992 SWC Championship.

The Lady Puerto Rico Classic is hosted by No. 9 Purdue at the Rio Mar Beach Resort. The course is set up as a par-72, 6,191-yard venue for the three-day, 54-hole event. Of the 15 teams competing, only one (Nebraska) is not ranked in the top 100. The three-day event concludes on Tuesday.
