DALLAS - Southlake, Texas, native and former Georgia women's golfer Alex Celli has transferred to SMU, head coach Jeanne Sutherland announced on Thursday. Celli arrives to the Hilltop as a sophomore.

"We are very pleased to welcome Alexandria Celli to the team," Sutherland said. "She is a great addition to our squad and along with being a great person; she brings competitiveness and a strong academic record, too. She will redshirt for the remainder of this season and join us in the lineup in the fall."

After missing the fall season in 2012-13 due to injury, Celli debuted at the Lady Bulldog Invitational in February of 2013. In her high school career, Celli was a first team All-District selection in 2011, after earning honorable mention recognition as a sophomore. The Southlake, Texas, native finished in the top-5 in the 2011 and 2012 District Championships, leading her team, to a runner-up finish in 2012.

Celli also played on the Texas Junior Golf Tour in 2010 and 2011, notching seven top-10 finishes, including runner-up finishes at the 2010 Dallas-Fort Worth Christmas Preview, the 2010 Holiday Junior Golf Class and the 2010 Trophy Club Junior Championship.

The Mustangs will open their spring schedule at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla., on February 9. The three-day tournament is SMU's first of at least six tournaments in the spring.
