SAN ANTONIO, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women’s golf team completed round three play today at the Alamo Invitational after carding a 302 on the day. The team finished the three round tournament carding 309-311-302—922 for 14th place.
“Overall, our finish wasn’t what I had hoped for, but I was pleased with today’s performance,” said SMU head coach Jeanne Sutherland. “The course was setup very tough today and we responded well, played with confidence, fought hard for pars and took advantage of opportunities.”
SMU’s top scorer on the day was Elizabeth Wells who shot a season-low 73, 1-over par.
“I think Elizabeth is starting to figure out how good she can be so I look for a good spring from her in her last semester of college golf,” Sutherland said.
The Ponies top finisher at the invite was Maria Elena Villamil carded a 225 after shooting a trio of 75’s. The sophomore finished tied for 32nd place, while Felicia Espericueta was two strokes behind her ending the day tied for 41st place.
SMU will be out of action until the spring season beings in February as the Mustangs travel to Rio Mar, Puerto Rico to compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 12-14.
