SAN ANTONIO (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs finished seventh at the Alamo Invitational hosted by UTSA at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio on Tuesday.

SMU senior Melanie White managed a top-20 finish after finishing with a one-over 217 (73-71-73). The Mustangs were tied for the lead at the end of the day Sunday, but Monday and Tuesday weren't as nice to SMU.

"We've had better days," Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "Our putters were cold today, but no one gave up."

The Mustangs are a youthful bunch that have climbed nearly 70 places in the GolfWeek rankings since the beginning of the semester. Sutherland is thrilled with the progress of her team and knows that they can get even better.

"We're a young team," Sutherland said. "I don't think we'll be as young next semester. We'll be more accountable on the golf course for our attitudes and our scores."

SMU will continue to practice and train in preparation for the spring schedule, which begins with a business trip out to Rio Mar, Puerto Rico, for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The tournament begins Feb. 10.
