NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs finished the first day at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic hosted by Oklahoma in ninth place out of 18 teams.

Alexandra Rossi and Jennifer Park finished the day at 1-over, putting them both tied for 19th individually. The Mustangs will be looking to improve in the second day of the event.

"We had a tough day today as a team," Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We lacked a player taking it deep on a day when 12 players in the field were under par.

"I'm seeing improvements in overall focus and in our short games, so we are still going in the right direction. We need to climb the ladder tomorrow by having each player taking responsibility for each shot today."

Oklahoma leads the event at 4-under as a team, good for a five-stroke edge over Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Texas State. Eight of the 18 teams in the field are in the top-50 in GolfStat's computer rankings.

Fans can follow the action during day two on GolfStat.
