DALLAS (SMU) - Felicia Espericueta posted the second-best round of the day, earning her a top-five finish at the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational on Sunday. SMU placed sixth in its home event, scoring the fourth-best team round on Sunday.
Espericueta was three-under par on the day and in third place before bogeying her last three holes to tie for fourth. The senior still carded an impressive even-par 72 during the final round, in which the average score for the day was 80. This is Espericueta's second top-10 finish of the season.
The Mustangs finished just one shot off of a top-five team finish. SMU gained seven shots on UTSA on Sunday, but the Roadrunners were able to hold on to the fifth position. Oklahoma State won the event, paced by Julie Yang, who took individual medalist honors after being the only player to finish the event under par (-6). Oklahoma took second, ahead of Ohio State and Denver, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
Next up for the Mustangs is the Conference USA Tournament on April 22 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
