April 6, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sits in seventh after the second round at the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational on Saturday, a round that featured windy conditions and few low scores across the field.
No. 23 Oklahoma State's Julie Yang posted the only under-par round of the day, shooting a four-under 68 to sit atop the leaderboard at -6. She holds an eight-shot advantage heading into Sunday and Oklahoma State leads the tournament by four strokes over Denver.
Three Mustangs were able to fight off strong winds and improve their scores from yesterday. Jennifer Park gained three shots after carding a 79, while individual participants Alexandra Rossi and Mehar Atwal each posted scores of 78.
SMU is within single-digit strokes of a top-five finish at its home event, with UTSA eight strokes ahead in fifth and Kansas State seven in front of the Mustangs.
No. 2 Oklahoma spent much of the day in front after moving past Friday's leader, Kansas State, but the Sooners dropped to third during the last few holes of the round. Ohio State is fourth.
Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
