Mustangs In Third After Two Rounds At Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

OAHU, Hawaii (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs rallied in round two at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational to climb to third place on the leaderboard after Tuesday. Jenny Haglund posted the low round of the day in the second round, carding a four-under 68 to move her into a tie for third overall.
The Mustangs will be back in action for the final round tomorrow at the Kane’ohe Klipper GC at 1 p.m. CT.
SMU ended the first round tied for sixth with TCU, Gonzaga and Washington State, with all three teams posting first round scores of 305. The Mustangs improved by 14 strokes in the second round, carding a low round total of 291, five strokes better than leader Mississippi State.
Freshman Katie Page tallied two 74's on Tuesday to sit in a tie for eighth on the leaderboard. If Page maintains her top-10 position, she would record the best finish of her collegiate career. Maria Elena Villamil is four strokes back of Page in 26th position. Jennifer Park bounced back after a tough first round to card a one-over 73 in the second round, collecting three birdies over four holes from the seventh through 10th. Haglund's low second round was the only score in the 60s all day and included five birdies and an eagle on the par-four 13th hole.
Mississippi State holds a nine-stroke lead over NC State and a 12-stroke edge over SMU. TCU and Kennesaw State round out the top five, while Gonzaga, Washington State, Columbia, Hawaii and UTEP all sit in the top 10. Camino Sardinero of UTEP leads at three-under par, three strokes ahead of Ines Lescudier of Kennesaw State and four strokes ahead of Haglund.
