COLUMBIA, S.C. (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team is No. 9 nationally in the Varsity Equestrian Coaches Poll, the highest ranking in school history. The Mustangs are 5-1 on the season and are riding a three-match win streak. The team's only loss came against No. 5 Oklahoma State.

"We are really excited to be recognized for our great start to the season," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "We've worked really hard this year and have had some great performances. This is something the team really deserves."

The Mustangs picked up three important road wins last weekend, defeating New Mexico State, 6-4, on Friday, Delaware State, 6-4, on Saturday and Sacred Heart, 8-0, on Sunday.

Freshman Emma Roberts has been the top Mustang performer this year, owning a 5-0 record and earning two MVP honors over fences. Sophomore Lauren Hogan is also off to a great start this season with a 5-1 mark. Sophomore Julianna Fischer is 7-2 on the year, including going 6-0 last weekend, and has an MVP performance.

SMU hosts No. 4 South Carolina on Oct. 28 at BuckBranch Farm at 1 p.m.
