DALLAS (SMU) - SMU equestrian rider Julianna Fischer has been named to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's inaugural Academic All-America first team. Jordyn Pettersen and Renick Townsend were each named Honorable Mention All-America.
Fischer, a sophomore from Wellington, Fla., is 7-3 in equitation over fences, earning MVP honors in the season-opening win against crosstown rival TCU. She also holds a 4-2 mark on the flat.
Pettersen, a senior and team captain from Fallbrook, Calif., holds an 8-4 record over fences, netting two MVP distinctions.
Townsend, a sophomore from Wellington, Fla., is 5-5 on the flat with an MVP win. She is also 1-1 over fences.
The No. 5-seeded Mustangs face No. 12 Tennessee-Martin in the opening round of competition of the National Collegiate Equestrian Championship on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.
