DALLAS (SMU) - SMU equestrian rider Emma Roberts has been named a 2012 All-American in equitation over fences by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association. The freshman had the second-highest Adjusted VERS in the country, 99.5, and was a perfect 10-0 over fences with three MVP honors in her first season on the Hilltop.
"We are extremely proud of Emma," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "She has been a great competitor this year and is very deserving of this award. To get this recognition as a freshman speaks volumes to her hard work this season."
Riders with the top four Adjusted VERS in each discipline are selected as All-Americans. Adjusted VERS is calculated:
Wins - Losses + Margin of Victory + Average Score + # of MVPs
Roberts' Adjusted VERS:
10 - 0 + 6.2 + 80.3 + 3 = 99.5
Roberts and the No. 5-seeded Mustangs face No. 12 Tennessee-Martin in the opening round of competition of the National Collegiate Equestrian Championship on April 12 at 8:30 a.m. at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.
