DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU equestrian team will host No. 8 TCU on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT at Sleepy P Ranch in the program’s final regular season home meet of the 2013-14 season. Saturday’s competition is a “Red Out” for Women’s Heart Disease Awareness/American Heart Association (AHA).
AHA pins will be for sale, and proceeds will go to AHA. The program will only be able to accept checks for the event. Checks need to be made out to AHA.
The Mustangs (3-9) will continue their stretch of four competitions in two weeks with their regular season finale and their debut at Sleepy P Ranch, the new home for SMU Equestrian. The Nationally ranked Horned Frogs enter the competition at 6-4.
Freshman Sylvia de Toledo is leading the Mustangs over fences with a 9-3 mark, and has turned in four MOP rides. De Toledo was 2-0 in Fresno, Calif., last weekend, including an MOP ride. Sophomore Schaefer Raposa is 8-4 with four MOP rides of her own, including three straight in competitions last fall. Senior Julianna Fischer is 6-4-1 this season, and has also recorded an MOP ride over fences.
On flat, SMU is led by a 5-3-1 mark from sophomore Mary Abbruzzese. Junior Emma Roberts cracked the flat lineup during the winter break, and is 2-1 in the spring, including a two-point outing between flat and fences at New Mexico State on February 15.
Junior Courtney Line has led the reigning lineup with a 4-2-1 record in her last seven appearances, including an MOP ride on November 23 against Auburn. Freshman Hannah McCain has recorded five wins in horsemanship this season to lead SMU, including two MOP performances.
