DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 10 SMU equestrian team defeated Fresno State, 9-3, Thursday at BuckBranch Farm. Freshman Schaefer Raposa and sophomore Greer Hindle earned MVP honors for the Mustangs. With the win, SMU moves to 4-2 on the season.
"We really came together as a team today and got the job done," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "Special kudos to our flat team that knocked it out of the park with stellar rides. The two MVP awards were icing on the cake. We are looking forward to a great week of practice as we prepare for South Carolina next Sunday."
SMU opened competition with a 4-2 win in equitation over fences, taking the raw score 440-410. Raposa earned an MVP nod with her 86-78 showing against Kara Spicer. Freshman Alex Butterworth continued her strong rookie season with an impressive 77-40 win over Lisa Beach. Sophomore Kendall Skreden picked up a point by edging Hillary West 70-68. Sophomore All-America Emma Roberts closed the flat with another win as she defeated Amanda Postel 74-70.
The Mustangs continued great rides on the flat going 5-1 with a raw score of 477-451. Hindle took MVP honors with an 87-84 victory over Lanie Madrazo. Junior Lucy Blundon turned in a dominate ride against Hannah Flammang, winning the matchup 85-73. Junior Julianna Fischer won her ride 70-60 over Marisa Mohn, while junior Renick Townsend had a 78-77 win against Lauren Carr. Freshman Erin Nelson earned the Mustangs' final point as she defeated Kimberly Hewson-Budnik 73-70.
SMU wraps up the fall season against No. 2 South Carolina at 10 a.m. on Nov. 18 at BuckBranch Farm.
