Results vs. Georgia
DALLAS (SMU) - Freshman rider Emma Roberts swept MVP honors as she closed out the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark over fences on Friday at BuckBranch Farm. Roberts won the Mustangs' only point over fences as she topped Michelle Morris 81-79 for the win and her third MVP honor. Roberts earned her second point of the day with a dominating 79-69 MVP victory on the flat.
"We had some great moments as Emma Roberts scored an 81 in the fences which gave her a perfect season as a freshman and the MVP today in that event," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "Rachel Reid earned an especially sweet victory on the flat today that sealed a perfect season for her. Today also showed us the areas that we need to really focus on between now and Nationals. It's always tough losing, but I cannot help but congratulate this team on how far they have come this year."
Fellow freshman Rachel Reid scored the other point for the Mustangs on the flat, edging Morris 66-65.
No. 9 SMU was defeated by No. 1 Georgia, 7-3. The final raw score was 717-669. With the loss, SMU finishes the regular season with a 7-5 record.
The Mustangs will compete in the Varsity Equestrian National Championship April 12-14 in Waco, Texas.
