Fort Worth, Texas - The SMU women's basketball team notched its first loss of the 2004-05 season Thursday night, falling to #23 TCU by the score of 85-65 in Fort Worth. The Mustangs' record now stands at 4-1 while the Lady Frogs improve to 6-1 on the season.
From the opening tip, TCU was hot - hitting shot-after-shot and forcing SMU turnovers. The Lady Frogs hit 58.3% of their shots in the first half compared to SMU's 40.6%. Freshman post Janielle Dodds collected a career-high 20 points (14 in the first eight minutes of the game) and added 10 rebounds. SMU went into the intermission down by 20 points, 52-32.
In the second half, it was more TCU at its best. Neither team shot well in the final 20 minutes of the game but the point deficit was too much for SMU to counter.
