DALLAS (SMU) - SMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be participating in the "Let's SAAC Hunger" program, a Conference USA conference-wide community service initiative. The event involves a canned food drive that will run from Friday, Nov. 9, though Thursday, Nov. 15, with a full weekend of athletic and community opportunities to participate in the drive.
All Conference USA institutions are participating in the competition and the member institution that collects the most food by weight during its food drive will be awarded the Conference USA Cup. All of SMU's collected goods will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
On Saturday the 10th, SMU student-athletes will be collecting money and canned goods on the Boulevard and then will take donations at Ford Stadium starting at 4:30 p.m.
To help increase donations, SMU will offer a special $5 tickets to the big SMU-USM Saturday night showdown or the tip off of the Larry Brown era versus Loyola Marymount on Sunday night to any fan that brings two canned items to the SMU Ticket Office on game day. There is a limit of one ticket per two-can donation.
Another option for fans is to make a two-can donation to get free admission to the women's volleyball matches Friday or Sunday or the women's basketball game Saturday at noon.
Additionally, there will be drop off points: Monday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at the SMU Women's Basketball Game vs. Texas Southern and Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the SMU Women's Basketball Game vs. North Texas.
