IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU junior Akil Simpson was one of eight players named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason Team, conference officials announced Monday. The Duncanville native earned second team All-C-USA accolades at the end of her sophomore season.
Simpson, a 6-0 forward, led the Mustangs and was in the top-20 in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game. She reached double-figures 17 times and scored at least 20 points three times, including a career-high 25 points at Tulane. She was also ninth in the league with a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game, posting nine double-doubles on the year.
