Katy Cobb Takes Part In Community Outreach 'Milk & Cookies' Program
Aug. 16, 2006
SMU junior guard Katy Cobb took timeout from her summer schedule on August 8 to take part in the SMU athletic community outreach program 'Milk and Cookies'. As part of the program, Cobb read bedtime stories to young kids at the nearby University Park Public Library. Cobb, a two-year letterwinner on the women's basketball team, was a huge hit with the kids as she conversed with them and made the stories come to life. Cobb is entering her third year as a standout guard on the women's basketball team. The SMU Athletics Department sponsors a comprehensive Community Outreach program which takes advantage of the skills, experience and notoriety of its 400+ student-athletes, coaches and staff members to reinforce positive messages to K-12 children and community members in the Dallas area. Active participation in the community has been at the heart of the school's philosophy and philanthropy. By focusing efforts on after-school clubs, inner-city youth recreation programs, education and literacy projects, shelters and other culturally diverse youth organizations, Mustang student-athletes, coaches, and staff members are able to make an impact that goes beyond watching the game.
