Women's Basketball Pushes WAC Champ Rice, Falls 53-50
Houston, Texas – The SMU women's basketball team fell 53-50 to Rice at Autry Court on Saturday night in Houston. Freshman post Janielle Dodds led SMU with 16 points and eight boards, Kendall Shead had 10 points and eight rebounds while Sarah Davis added 10 points and five boards.
Dodds also set new freshman season records in scoring and rebounds Saturday night. At the end of the regular season, she totals 409 points and 233 rebounds going into tournament play next week.
The Mustangs finish the regular season at 19-9 overall and 10-8 in the WAC. SMU starts the conference tournament with a quarterfinal contest againmst Fresno State on Wednesday March 9 at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nevada. The win gave Rice a share of the WAC title after Louisiana Tech lost at home to Tulsa.
