SMU (16-4, 7-0 C-USA) Earns Votes In USA TODAY Sports Coaches' Poll

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs earned votes in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches' Poll after beating UTEP 82-73 on the road to remain perfect in Conference USA, improving to 7-0 and 16-4 overall. The win also extended SMU's win streak to eight games, matching the second longest in school history.

Yesterday, it was announced the Mustangs received votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll for the first time since Jan. 25, 2010 when SMU was 14-4. SMU last received votes in the coaches' poll on Feb. 1, 2010.

Keena Mays leads a trio of players averaging at least 10 points per game. The Mustangs are second in the league, scoring 69.4 points per game, and lead the league in conference games with 70.6. SMU is ninth in the NCAA, shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range, and 34th in the country with 11.6 steals per game.

SMU takes on UAB Thursday in Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Mustangs conclude the homestand against Marshall Sunday at 2 p.m. before playing back-to-back road games. SMU has designated Sunday's game as its annual breast cancer awareness game in conjunction with the Play4Kay initiative.
