LAS COLINAS, Texas (SMU) - On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, SMU women's basketball student-athletes will team up with Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawlings to compete against Mayor Beth Van Duyne of Irving, Texas in round one of a 3-point basketball shootout challenge in support of the upcoming Little Big Shot D/FW area fund raising tournament benefiting H.O.P.E. Farm of Fort Worth and the D/FW area Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Round one of the mayor's competition will take place at Moody Coliseum on SMU's campus located at 3009 Binkley Ave., Dallas, beginning at 3:30pm.

The mayors' final scores will be held up against the scores of the round two competitors, Mayor Betsy Price of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck of Arlington, Texas. Each mayor is paired with university athletes and community volunteers from their respective cities. University of Dallas, SMU, TCU, and UTA are the participating schools. All four mayors have endorsed the metroplex business challenge, encouraging businesses to join in the friendly competition and pledge support of the Little Big Shot tournament through sponsorships of community and corporate teams. "This is a great platform for local business to engage in a worthy cause. Businesses have the opportunity to support their communities, and most importantly, the youth benefiting from this event", said Mayor Mike Rawlings.

Along with honoring the top business contributors from each city, the Mayor's Little Big Shot 3-Point Shootout Trophy - currently belonging to the city of Ft. Worth - will be presented at an award's ceremony during the Little Big Shot's "Jocks and Jerseys" Gala on March 16, 2014 at H.O.P.E. Farm and travel back to the winning city's mayor's office. "Our hope is that we can inspire our respective cities to join us in this friendly competition for such a great cause", said Mayor Beth Van Duyne. "As far as our mayor's shootout, I look forward to bringing the trophy home to Irving, TX!"
